Tenant's Guide

Find your next property

When you are looking for a new home to rent, choosing the right lettings agent is important. They can ensure that you are looked after, provide you with all the details you need to know about the property and advise you on which insurance and utility companies to use.

Here at Travers & Ward we go the extra mile for our tenants to ensure they are taken care of throughout their tenancy.

The Renting Process

At Travers & Ward, we are here to help you. Here's a quick guide to what will happen once you've found the right property for you.

  • Contact us to arrange a viewing time to suit you

  • Fill in a Tenant Application form if you are happy with the property and want to apply

  • Once approved we will take a holding rent equivalent to one week's rent to remove the property from the market. This is an advanced partial payment of your first month's rent.

  • On receiving satisfactory references, we will arrange a move-in date for your tenancy to start between yourself and the landlord. A legal agreement will be drawn up and we will request the following before the tenancy commences:

    • All named tenants to sign the agreement

    • One month's rent in advance minus the holding rent

    • Deposit (equivalent to 5 weeks rent)

  • Your deposit will be held by us and fully protected by the Deposit Protection Service (This will be returned to you promptly when you leave, providing everything is in order)

  • We will then advise you on utility and insurance companies. We strongly recommend that you take out insurance for your own belongings as Landlords will only insure the building.

For more information you can download our Tenant Handbook and Application Form, but if there are any other questions, then please get in touch or pop in to the office.
